Dinghy Open Sailing Session

11th June 2023, 11:30 - 14:30

We are keen to ensure all members that want to can get on the water this year, to that end we are planning to run some open dinghy sailing / informal training sessions during the season.

Sessions will be supervised by an experienced RYA instructor but are not designed to lead to any specific RYA dinghy qualification. In an individual session we expect there will be a mix of beginners or less experienced sailors looking to get their first experiences of sailing on the river or build on existing knowledge to give confidence to sail on the river; and more experienced sailors looking to go out on their own but with the reassurance a patrol boat is on the water to supervise.

Numbers will be limited at any session to 6 beginners and 4 more experienced sailors due to the number of boats the club has. Please note if we have more than 3 beginners in any one session then at times they will ride in the patrol boat whilst others get time on the water. The first Trial Session gives you an opportunity to meet our trainer Liz Chowienczyk and discuss the best pathway for you to develop your sailing skills. If you can't make it contact her on TSC Training Whats App group or contact myself.

Proposed dates are as follows

16th April - at 1400 (Trial day)
25th April - at 0830
17th May - at 1600
9th June - at 1000
11th June - at 1130

We hope to announce more dates later in the year.

Sessions will last for approx 3 hours and will include some theory time on land plus you will be asked to assist with rigging the boats. Of course any session is subject to the weather. You must wear your own buoyancy aid and if sailing a single handed or small dinghy before the end of May you will need a wetsuit.

Please book your attendance at the event(s) via the Sailing club's website calendar of events or through the link below. If you book a place we expect you to turn up (or notify us in good time if you are unable to do so) Spaces are precious and we do not want to waste a single one. If this becomes an issue we will introduce a charge for places but hope to avoid this being necessary.

Any questions on this please contact the vice commodore on vicecommodore@topsham-sc.org.uk
